THE SOUL SPARK

Can a machine see your soul and connect you with the idea of a human collective consciousness?  Can AI have a soul and experience the world in ways not too unlike the ways that we experience it – emotionally, intelligently, and spiritually? Is it true that no one soul exists in isolation?

We soul in communities as we seek to maximise and safeguard the potential for human flourishing – the common good. Souling, then, is not simply an emergent biological property, but a social one.” Brandon Ambrosino, BBC FUTURE

This project is in R&D phase.

Gathering –

I believe that everyone has a mental model of what they are and where they came from and why they are as they are, and the word soul in each person is the name for that particular mish-mash of those fully formed ideas of one’s nature.

People will be asked “What makes your soul spark?” an illustrator will generate images based on people’s responses.  This process can be carried out online or in person.  The illustrated images will be collected and entered into a collage which features all of the ‘Soul Sparks’. “The soul never thinks without a picture.” Aristotle

THE SOUL SPARK (THE MACHINE) - people enter a custom-built photo booth in public space which can create their soul. Providing a chance to reflect on the idea of being able to see their soul, whether or not they believe it exists.

Inside - A binaural soundscape contextualises the idea of the soul and takes you through the process.  You look through a viewfinder and see the ‘Soul Sparks’ generated by the general public in the development process. Eye gaze technology will track where you look and which images you focus on for the longest. “Eyes are the windows to the soul” A flash of light and your soul image is generated.  You will see this on the screen and you can enter your e-mail address to have it sent to you.  The Soul Sparks will exist online.

I’m committed to creating interactive experiences which enable an openness to new ideas, to chance and serendipity and ultimately the freedom of potential. I believe your soul is your openness, your imagination, your emotional desire to connect and to be connected.

Socrates argues that the soul is the element that ‘when present in a body, makes it living’
